Taylor & World Music Nashville Unveil The First of Four Custom Shop Acoustic Guitars
Wednesday, 11 February 2009 12:40
Taylor Guitars hosted representatives from all over the US and Canada to come and visit and see production of guitars first hand. Taylor Guitars' president, Bob Taylor, gave the tour personally. The two day event explained production techniques, research and development, and the general progressive attitude towards guitar building that Bob and his company share.
In November of 2008, I was invited to tour the Taylor Guitars factory, led by Bob Taylor personally. The event was a blast as we were joined by most of the employees from their company. Each person that I met was thrilled to be a part of Taylor and their enthusiasm was very infectious. Bob Taylor, himself, was a very mellow, humble host. His attitude towards business, guitars, life, everything was open and honest and he obviously was the source of the aforementioned enthusiasm.
It was truly an experience.
Aside from the tour of the factory, discussing the state of affairs in our business, Taylor's future, and many other industry related topics, the most enjoyable part of the visit was at the end. The dealers, who opted to do so, were brought back into the factory with Bob to choose woods for custom acoustic guitars. We sifted through piles of spruce, engelmann, redwood, rosewood, cocobolo, you name it! And, if you had a question about a certain piece of wood, combination, type of body style that the wood could fit... all you had to do was bring the wood combinations to Bob and he would give you his opinion and recommend to you what he would do.
I chose woods for our store for four custom Taylor acoustic guitars.
